The one thing I hate more then emptying the clean dishwasher is figuring out what's for dinner. I have to feed three very picky eaters. Sometimes I end up making four different things and no one eats anything. Ahhh!!! I came across this site from Kraft that might help - http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/Dinner/Pages/DinnerLandingPage.aspx?cm_mmc=eml-_-rbe-_-welcome-_-web
There is a side bar where you type up to three ingredients and a pull down menu where you choose if you are making dinner, breakfast, etc. I tested it out cause I had scallops and tomatoes, but nothing came up. Probably too gourmet for Kraft. So I just put in scallops and got five recipes. It's in my favorite's file now - maybe if I could just get one meal out of it that everyone would eat.

A New Munchkin In Sayville

The Bayport Bubble now has a Dunkin Donuts close by in Sayville. A brand new store just opened on the corner of Main Street and Greene Avenue. Very exciting stuff - if you have little kids. I took the kids yesterday and got chocolate Munchkins and pink donuts. They loved it! And the most exciting part for them was that the door handle was a pink "D". I got some blueberry coffee - yummy!!! Anything having to do with blueberries - I love. It was way cheaper then a cup of coffee from Starbucks and Starbucks does not have blueberry coffee.

Kids Eat Free

It's true - kids eat for free at J & R's Steak House Sunday - Thursday. You have to have a paying adult to get a free meal and there are only certain items that are free, but it's food kids love. My kids enjoyed their free meal as much as Mom and Dad did paying for it. J & R's Steak House runs all sorts of specials. There are happy hour, early bird and senior specials.
They have five locations on Long Island and we went to their newest one on Main Street in Patchogue. If you cannot find parking in the front - there is plenty of parking in the back, but there is no back entrance so you have to walk through a walkway to the front. When we went on a Thursday night at 6pm and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. Service is great, food is great and price is great.
Go to J & R's web site http://jandrsteakhouse.com - there's lots of great stuff here. You can sign up on their site for email specials - which I did. And J & R's has online coupons. I printed one for a free appetizer and they gladly accepted it.

My Newsday Shrank
When I pulled my Newsday out of the plastic bag this morning it shrank! I like it. It looks more compact and will be easier to read on the run. It will also save paper and will cost Newsday less money - even though they will probably charge us more. I am sure their classified revenue is being hurt by free web sites like Craig's List.

Up! Not Too Sure?
Took the kids to see the new Disney movie "Up!" at The Sayville Movie Theater on Railroad Avenue in Sayville http://www.sayvillecinemas.com/. No The Bayport Bubble does not have it's own movie theater. The Sayville Movies is a great cinema - sort of an old fashioned mom and pop run theater. If you see the first showing of day of any movie it is $5 a ticket - a great bargain! A small popcorn is $3.25 - which is less then those big chain movie theaters.
Now onto "Up!". It was rated G, but I would have rated it PG-13. It was an entertaining movie with a good storyline and a happy ending. But to get to that happy ending - it was a bit much for little kids. I went with a 4, 5 and 6 year old. They were covering their eyes a lot and got scared. Usually with these animated movies there is some adult humor put in to entertain the big people watching it. "Up!" dealt with some adult subjects that made many of the big people in the theater shed a tear. It went over the kid's heads, but I still thought it was a bit much for a "G" rated movie - miscarriage, death, abandonment. I am really not a freaky overprotective mom and I do talk about death with my kids, but I left this movie feeling a bit melancholy. Two out of three kids like this movie.

Memorial Day Parade In Bayport

Here some photos I took at the Memorial Day Parade in Bayport - on Memorial Day. It was a great parade and a beautiful day. Bayport Fire Department was giving out little flags for the kids to wave as the marchers went by. Then there was a ceremony in the park. Another fine day in the Bayport Bubble!

Warm Pear Salad
Here's a recipe for Warm Pear Salad I made last week for a party. My friend asked me to email it to her. So since I typed it out for her I am cutting and pasting to The Golden Lily to share with The Bayport Bubble!
Spring Greens
Warm Pear Salad
* Spring Greens (I use most of the Costco box - depending on how many people)
* Real crumbled blue cheese
* 2 Pears (I use the ones I call black pears - any pears work)
* Walnuts
* Olive Oil
* White Wine (any wine works)
~ Peel and core pears. Slice pears in half and place in sauce pan. Cover pears with white wine and cook under low flame till pears get soft.
~ When pears are done take out of wine and chop.
~ Then add in this order to large salad bowl or you can do individual salad bowls.
Spring Greens
Blue Cheese
Chopped Walnuts
Pears - it tastes best if they are still warm
Drizzle with olive oil and some of the wine from the pears
Yum!
