Beware of your Jell-o pudding Long Island

Jell-o brand pudding on Long Island has been tampered with this past week. So far, in four different supermarkets 10 boxes of Jell-o pudding had something other then pudding mix inside. Three of the grocery stores are in Suffolk County and one in Nassau County.

Someone apparently buys the pudding and replaces it with something similar to pudding mix. The pudding is returned to the store for a cash refund. The tampering goes unnoticed when the product is returned, but once the box is open something is not right. The replaced pudding mix has been tested and is not harmful, but authorities cannot identify what it is. If your box of Jell-o pudding looks suspicious after opening - do not eat it and call police.

The supermarkets with the tampered pudding were in the towns of Brookhaven, Huntington, Smithtown and Woodbury. These supermarkets have removed all Jell-o products from their shelves and are working with police.

Donate food and lose weight with Curves in Sayville

Spring is peeking it's head around the corner, so it is time to get your winter body in shape and feeling good for the warmer weather. The month of March is the best time to join Curves in Sayville. If you donate a bag of groceries, this is the only time they do not charge an enrollment fee. That's a great deal! Curves is the 30 minute circuit training gym, that mixes aerobic exercise and weights.

The 12th Annual Curves Food Drive has started and the Sayville Curves is collecting for Sayville Food Pantry and Blue Point Outreach Program. Last year they collected 965 pounds of food and they hope to surpass this. The food pantries are in need of non-perishable food like - spaghetti sauce, canned fruit, healthy kid snacks, cereal, canned vegetables, laundry detergent and grocery gift cards.

Curves in Sayville is a very kid friendly place, so there are no excuses for not working out. In the back of the gym, there is a play area for your children and you do not have to pay extra for it, like at other gyms. Often the cost of childcare at other gyms ends up being the same as your membership. They have a TV with a DVD player, toys, table, chairs and markers to keep your little ones busy. While working out, you see your kids the whole time and it is very safe.

Besides the exercise, Curves also helps you with eating. They have The Curves Fitness & Weight Management Plan. The book is $10 and the classes are free when you are a member. The plan is very easy to follow with three phases. You just open the book to what phase you are on. Look for what meal you need and there are tons of options, even for busy ladies with kids always on the go.

Grilled cheese and crab at Shandon Court

In everyone's family life you need some big people time. Meeting old friends last night, we went to Shandon Court on Main Street in East Islip. What a truly nice place!

Hanging out in the large bar area was very comfortable with plenty of room to stand. There are also a bunch of small tables and chairs, to sit and chat or have a bite to eat in a relaxed atmosphere. The bar is huge - again with lots of places to sit. Last night they had live music.

Besides the great drinks and friends - you have to try Shandon Court's food. It is delicious. We only stayed in the bar area, but the bar menu is what would be on the dinner menu at most restaurants. The one thing that I dreamed about last night was Shandon Court's grilled cheese and crab meat sandwich. It definitely was different, but you must try it. It is done with bakery fresh bread, tons of real crab meat and Munster cheese. Just scrumptious! The other food on their menu was great too and priced affordable.

All of the staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant part is away from the bar for diners that want a full meal. There are also two other totally separate catering rooms - fit for everything from a birthday party to a small wedding. Shandon Court is an all round great place to stop and have a drink or throw a party. And the best part is the grilled cheese and crab meat sandwich - yum!

The Bayport - Blue Point Parent Support Group

The Bayport - Blue Point Parent Support Group has been gathering together for three years.

They meet once a month at the Bayport - Blue Point High School Library.

They discuss educational, behavioral and social topics concerning our children.

They discuss current trends in disciplining.

They discuss topics related to children with special needs.

They discuss how to effectively advocate for our children's educational support.

They have professionals in the area of education visit and talk with us.

They have a behavior specialist, speech pathologists and a special education teacher attending most of the meetings.

They share stories about their kids.

They share information on how to help our children.

They share information on how to help ourselves to be better parents.

They are a place where you can come and talk about your child.

Du the boo! South Shore Halloween Duathlon in Blue Point

There is still time to Du The Boo on Halloween morning - in costume or not. The Bayport - Blue Point Chamber of Commerce is holding an USAT sanctioned du-athlon at 8am on Saturday, October 31st starting at Corey Beach in Blue Point. Entry fee is $55 and part of it is going to local charities that The Chamber supports. There will be prizes for the top three males and top three females winners.

What is a du-athlon? Well it is like a tri-athlon, but no swimming. There will be a 2 mile run, followed by a 14 mile bike ride and ending with a 2 mile run. The racers start off at Corey Beach and follow the scenic route of Middle Road through Blue Point and Bayport, then looping around to finish back at Corey Beach.

Get your registration in today to Du The Boo! If you are not that athletic, at least go down to Middle Road on Halloween morning and cheer on the racers - many who will be running in costumes.

Trick or Treat Trail in Bayport

Halloween is almost here and kids love to wear their costumes any chance they get. For the next three weekends The Girl Scouts of Suffolk County are doing their Halloween Trick or Treat Trail at Camp Edey in Bayport. It is for boys and girls ages 4 to 10. There will be a bunch of Halloween activities for the kids to do, along with a Fun Maze, games and treats at each station. Every hour there is a costume pageant, so make sure the kids are wearing their Halloween best. They will have other refreshments available and a coupon for popcorn online.

Cost is $10 per child - adults are free. The Trick or Treat Trail goes on rain or shine.
